"Best-case or worst-case, any war is going to be a rational for thousands of new soldiers for al-Qaida."

they do not need more rationale for these unrationale people in al-qaida... IF al-qaida can hit us with a dirty bomb etc. they are going to do it the first chance they get.. It has nothing to do with war in Iraq. The assumption of us getting hit by al-qaida if we go into iraq is off the mark.... just the opposite,, if we can get hold of the massive quantities of wmd we may be saving ourselves and the world.

I can see the kurds , etc on national tv to the Muslim world explaining how grateful they are for being freed from Saddam... Telling horror stories of his rule. Opportunities like a peaceful change in leadership in Iraq could certainly help the Moslim unrest in eu. u.s. etc. I see the problem being Iran, Saudi, Egypt, rulers in a tougher situation.

Was the end of WW2 the rationale for thousands of new soldiers for hitler, mussolini or tojo? Clear cut victories in war prevent what you fear. Of course you need to add a little Marshall plan to that along with a little Douglas MacArthur. US was good at that back then. Hopefully reconstruction and liberalization of the entire mideast will become clear US postwar policy. Mike
