Kirk, Jeffrey,

Re: Possible mkt share loss

At least part of it can be attributed to the customer base of each company. Lam has a large Samsung base if I am not mistaken and they are forecasting 10% growth. Samsung is also one of the very few which have raised capex for '03. I am not sure we can jump to the conclusion that AMAT is losing share, although it is a factor which must now be considered, whereas before it was not even part of the equation.

But short-term the street will most likely assume the worst. It appears they are concerned about market share loss judging by the percentage drops this morning. Lam usually has much more volatility both on the upside and the down....but not today:

AMAT 10:54am 11.59 -1.36 -10.50%
LRCX 10:53am 11.358 -0.722 -5.98%
NVLS 10:54am 28.898 -1.002 -3.35%
