Last night on The Charlie Rose Show David Gergen mentioned that the NeoCons have taken over The Defense Department and they have the President's ear...He said the NeoCons have enormous influence and help establish the foreign policy goals....Powell's group has input on how some of those goals will be achieved (e.g. the last minute move to go to the U.N.). Gergen said Colin Powell is under incredible pressure to take a tough stand on Iraq. Finally, he said that IF the State Department was making the big decisions the U.S. would NOT be gearing up to invade Iraq right now.

if you think Bush is not governing from further right than he campaigned;

You are right! Of course he is. Funny you should mention this. Gergen was asked, "Could you compare Bush to Reagan?" Gergen replied, (roughly)

"Reagan campaigned right and governed center. You have to remember that he voted three times for FDR, who was his hero. Bush has campaigned center and governed right. He is planning to implement policies that Reagan only talked about. Bush is a much bigger gambler than Reagan was. He bet everything on winning last November and won. So this administration could be called 'Reagan III', only more so"

But this "Religious Right" bugaboo that the Dems use is wrong, and if they are not careful, it will come back to bite them. I showed you what the real numbers are. And remember, people who go to church regularly tend to be more conservative, and vote conservative than those who don't. (The exception of course, are my friends, the Universalist/Unitarians, who are so far left, they would fall off the earth if it were flat. I love em anyway)
