I've heard that from any number of commentators; from all sorts of political persuasions. But this "Religious Right" bugaboo that the Dems use is wrong, and if they are not careful, it will come back to bite them. I showed you what the real numbers are. Hardly the "real" numbers. Just some numbers. I'm not contesting those numbers though you provided no sources for them. Rather, we know, from a variety of sources, that the Bush folk consider the further right their home base. They do not hide that for even one moment. Save those miserable campaign appearances in which we have the straight political talk about "all the people." The further right is his base and his crew believes that to be the case. Given that, the continual fight for them is to keep their base while not frightening the center too much. However, one characterizes the center, my little suburban folk is obviously just a place card, it can get genuinely scared of the further right. That center approves of Roe vs Wade; approves of improving women's opportunities through all sorts of vehicles, including Title IX; doesn't want to see serious changes to medicare and social security; tends to favor gun control. Geez, I best stop. I'll trot out the long list. So long as the terrorism stuff goes to Bush, he can hide the rest of the agenda, almost in full view. The minute he loses the terrorism vote, he's in trouble. That's why I expect them to keep the war talk going for a very long time. A succesful Iraqi invasion will be followed by something.
