That's another thing that went down under Clinton.

Federal spending as a percent of gdp was lower under Clinton than Reagan.

In a humorous aside, Bush said he wanted to hold federal spending to only 4% annual increases. That's faster than it went up when Clinton was President, and faster than our economy is likely to grow.

I don't know how much the Republican congress helped curb spending. They're sure going hog-wild today.

But what does this have to do with your assertion that tax increases would lead to a severe recession?

They didn't in '83, or '92, for example.

His mind is closed but you can keep trying if you like a challenge (I know I do). Clinton's term was about the price of oil not his economic policy (note how his economy fell apart when the price of oil went up).
