tejek,

re:So the question becomes why would they take that risk?

Not sure they would send anything our way, Seoul would be the most likely target. 10-20 million with a 5-10 minute missile flight time.

The weird thing about NK that reminds of Vietnam, is they have so little infrastructure that you can't "take it out". They have assets buried in caves all over the most rugged terrain imaginable. We would have the air in no time, but the ground battle could be like Iwo Jima for months and months. I swear they could operate their "communications systems" on AA batteries. The only good thing is I estimate half their equipment is broken due to a lack of spare parts. But I'm sure that recent missile shipment earned them some cash - do you think they're buying Nuke parts with the money?

But if NK were to send a nuke to CA....before it even got there, we
would have very nearly obliterated NK.

Not quite that quick. Out nukes are no faster then theirs and we are not on a hair trigger as much as we used to be. It might be several hours before NK started to glow.

I get your point. We probably have the power to deter NK, but I'd rather not depend on deterence if we don't have to. North Korea isn't the most sane or stable place. If they where pressed and under extreme pressure anything might happen. The odds are very low, but I don't want to risk it if we don't have to.

You ask why they would take that risk, I ask why would we take the risk that they might? Or that they might blackmail and intimidate with nukes without actually using them.
