Hi Dave:

This has been a tough day.

I think Poet's understood something about the boomer's connection here. Ours is stronger than most. While we were being taught how to duck and cover, we also were shown how we might nevertheless reach for the stars as we all watched Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.

Whatever cynical view might be held, there remains something pure and noble attached to NASA. This is an agency funded , as it happens, by the United States. But it is also an effort supported by us all, whether we know it or not.

We offered up our better angels. As a species we have done so for centuries and have, for centuries, been forced to confront our limitations: Our hubris, our failures to anticipate, our ignorance, Our humanity.

But we keep at it. And here's what's worth preserving: our curiosity, our great courage, nobility and hope that these better angels, part and parcel of us all, will some day prevail.
