Looking quickly at the Forts Since the recent reshowing of Ken Burns' series, several guys at the office have been getting into studying the War. One of them had a 'Eureka' moment the other day when he realized that Fort Wood really was, a fort. Have been reading Gen Alexander's account of assaulting Fort Sanders in Knoxville. Seems Sanders was a friend and classmate of his at West Point and was killed by Alexander's division during the withdrawal into Knoxville. Alexander feels he saw Sanders at some point during the skirmish.
