"Pandering to the left" huh? They're Republicans. Why would they pander to the left? The left doesn't vote for them.

Have you got any idea of the collosal lies, fraud and damage Big Oil has done to Alaska already? Okay, a lot of jobs in Prudhoe Bay, but you also have lakes of spilled oil there, permanent and uncleanable. You have Prince William Sound, the cradle of nature in the north, the birthplace of more salmon and other fish than anywhere, befouled and hurting salmon runs (and as a result every other living thing around including man). You have Indian tribes stripped of their traditional way of life, bought off by Big Oil and reduced to eating grocery foods. You have the oil companies literally buying every vote and politician they can up there

ANWAR is one of the last truly unspoiled places on earth. The wildlife there is amazing. The oil companies claim they only want an airport-sized portion of land to drill on, but they're only counting the actual drilling rigs. What a massive lie. They intentionally leave out 99% of the other lands they will bulldoze, use and abuse, that is the massive infrastructure to support those derricks. And one tire track on the Alaska tundra can remain there for 40-50 years for the eyes to see, because of the nature of semi perma-frost. when I was camping in Alaska we found garbage from the 1940's in pristine condition. Nothing biodegrades up there because of the cold, you see. Therefore, no healing the damage the oil companies will do. The Kerry-McCain fuel effifiency bill Bushies shot down would save more than ANWAR could ever produce. But no, conservation is un-American, finishing the job on the Wild West is pro-American. ANWAR is a wildlife REFUGE. That means hands off Big Oil. Sorry but drilling there is an awful idea and the six or more Republican senators ought to be cheered, not blamed for pandering. They happen to have environemntal beliefs they hold dear. The GOP used to be part of that until big oil and polluters took the party over.
