A consensus would save the world some grief, putting the UN at the head of the charge, although I doubt anybody will think of this as anything other than a US-led invasion. The "evidence" that Powell presented was surprisingly weak -- but he has so much credibility to bring to the Bush team that at an emotional level it was a big help to see him out selling the war. Now it is time to see if deal-making and political expedience can overcome logic and string together something that looks like a "coalition".
