well what I know from applied and the chip people who are friends of mine, is that the US biz is stable and slowly growing for PCs, due to upgrades, imo mostly for IE 6 and the new app servers which are absolute requirements for java or any new development. The US overall has PCs running a lot of win98 and if you have anything close to a new web portal or intranet planned an upgrade is crucial. Thats the US. The problem at least for applied is international. Their international orders fell off a cliff on this iraq situation. It wasn't just iraq in and of itself but the Korea environment that bubbled up because of it... in general international capex budgets are completely frozen. This could be just applied because they sell into asia mostly. However it sounds believeable to me. So if you believe that then the question is will the international climate recover after iraq? My personal belief is no. I think its tension for the entire year. So overall, US business is all we have.
