"BMI" appears to me to be simplistic. It takes absolutely no account of "build". Some people are short and muscular and weigh as much as other people who are short and fat. I suspect the health risks of "short and muscular" are much less than "short and fat".

I think BMI is used because it is simple to calculate. Height and weight are easy to measure. How do you measure "build"?
