Your case, IMO, is irrefutable!

You ignored my implied point, of course.

My point was that an effective income tax rate spread of between 14.1% (for the 'average American') and 22% (for the 'richest Americans... earning more than $110 million per year) is not such a huge spread.

7.9% is a pretty modest spread between the median and the top... and that was for tax year 1999 (the median's tax rate had climbed up from 13.9% the preceding year, and the richest's rate had dropped 1/3 because of recently passed Clinton-era tax changes).

As I pointed out: after the recent Bush-era tax changes, there is likely to be no effective spread at all anymore... and that DOESN'T count this year's proposed changes.

Considering that many of the OTHER taxes people pay (such as consumption taxes, user fees, FICA, etc.) take an even bigger bite out of the average Joe's income than income taxes do... it is clear that the Middle Class is the Beast of Burden here.

The only thing your desire to shift even more taxes onto the backs of the Middle Classes would accomplish is a political revolution... so have at it!

We are over-due for a good 'Throw the Rascals Out' Huey Long-style political movement.

I can think of nothing that would ignite one faster than your call to "rob the Middle Classes".
