Wrong. Before they lost the Opium Wars, China was the richest country in the world. Within a couple generations, it was a country that couldn't feed itself.

Anyway, why should people have easier access to mind altering drugs than antibiotics?

You have a weird outlook imo. People since the beginning of time have USED drugs, but they do no NEED them. Where do you get that bizarre outlook? Sounds like you need them.
