And it is a nice bonus that he happens to be an ex-consultant to Unocal on a pipeline in Afghanistan, who carried out the negotiations with the Taliban? How very convenient...

If I defend the U.S. position in Afghanistan because their's is the only workable one I can think of.

Can't you think of another "position" where the head of government is not a puppet who needs to be protected by American soldiers as bodyguards? Can you really not think of a world without imperialist politics? Really...

My afghani friends laughed and laughed at your notion that a "REAL" election would work in Afghanistan today.

They would probably not be able to laugh, and perhaps even cry, if you told them a bit about their new leader's US oil connections.
