Of course, the problems coming with the fast economic development will NOT escape China. But they are NOT going to collapse Chinese economy either. Like Jay said, two steps forward, and one step back, the net is still moving forward.

Hello Don, <<Can Communism survive it? >> I believe your entire premise is a house of cards built on shifting sands wrapped within a shimmering mirage, if your premise is that true communists, with C in caps yet (!), are ruling a nation of capitalists in China today.

I believe that China is the most dynamic capitalist society in formation on today's planet, rapidly urbanizing, industrializing, and privatizing; and each little incremental change is multiplied by 1.3 billion times, each and every time.

Fact of the matter is, given the scope and scale of daunting issues, the 'communists' have done just about everything just about right over the past umpteen years based on the resources at hand, or, golly, Collapse with a C would have happened already, as predicted by the Economist some 10 years ago for the 10 year horizon. We are not even close on the trajectory, except as reported in, oh, let me guess, NYT, WSJ, Fortune Magazine ...

You see, and maybe you do not, in fact China has collapsed already, hit bottom, and is now leading to the next abracadabra of we do not know what, but some others believe they can guess at whatelse.

You really should pay a visit soon, see the effects of dynamism, sense the energy, feel the buzz, get in touch with hope, and generally have a good time. And do not let it trouble you that you want to believe but are afraid to.
