That's an interesting quote. I think I agree. A respectful coexistence does not necessarily mean that we have to understand each other. For example, one of my pet peeves is people leaving their shopping carts out in the parking lot so the carts bang into cars and the store has to pay somebody to collect them. I always return mine to the station or inside, and I don't understand at all why people are so lazy that they can't do that too. I whine about this and somebody will say, "Yeah, but that gives the guy who goes out to collect them a job." I compromise by taking my own cart in and complaining bitterly about people leaving theirs in the parking lot. I don't run them down with my car because they are so thoughtless.
