As you have noticed, there are many factors that contribute to the drive to invade Iraq. However, there is one that stands out as the most important. It is regarding this one factor that I would like to discuss in this post. These ideas run contrary to what we are generally told about energy issues, so they may be hard to accept, but I strongly recommend that you take the time to think about what I write, as understanding these issues may have a profound effect on your future. Modern industrial society has prospered and grown based on the availability of cheap, abundant fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are ESSENTIAL for modern agriculture, distribution, transportation, manufacturing, travel, etc. Modern society in its present form would not exist without fossil fuels. In the past century, fossil fuels have had the following characteristics: 1. Low price 2. Steady increase in supply However, in the future, due to the peaking of the Hubbert Curve, fossil fuels will become: 1. Increasingly scarce (production will steadily decline) 2. Increasingly expensive At present, only a few nations have the capability to increase production of fossil fuels, let alone maintain current production levels. Export capacity is held in the hands of a small number of nations (about 80% of oil reserves are now held by Muslim nations). Availability of oil is essential for sustaining a modern industrial society, such as exists in Europe, Japan, and North America. Any nation that fails to acquire sufficient fossil fuels will fall into chaos. He who controls the flow of oil from the Middle East not only ensures the survival of his own society, but also holds the power to decide the survival or failure of other societies. This is the Great Game, in capital letters. It is not about “petty oil profits,” but the Control of the World. Bush and his friends in the industry know this. They are friends with Matt Simmons, who most certainly has informed them of the inevitable decline in fossil fuel availability. I strongly suggest you take the time to study these issues carefully.
