I believe we intend to use the oil proceeds to pay for the war, occupation AND to build a Democracy right in the middle of hell. Once we raise the quality of living in Iraq the surrounding countries will topple their respective governments who are living the lifestyle of the rich and famous while their people live in shacks. Occupation can work and you gotta love the location. If we need to deal with any of the other middle east countries we can have a response at their doorstep in 20 minutes if need be.

the proponents and opponents of the war have private agendas. France and Russia are worried about all the money they're making off Saddam. In the last analysis, they'll fall in line if we attack because they need to be there when a new regime is installed for the very same financial reasons. I'm personally not convinced we're doing this for oil or even the Euro dollars issue. But if that's part of it, so what? You simply have to ask yourself whether Saddam is a threat to his own region and the West. If the answer is yes, the conflict is justified on the primary level. Since it's clear he has the weapons and is not complying with the U.N. requirements, he surely does pose a threat. You can't reason with these people and right now Saddam's laughing up his sleeve as he plays his games with the U.N. He's in complete control of the situation so long as the "inspections" continue. Iraq is about the size of California. Believe me, I could hide weapons here easily if given weeks, months and years to do so. needleinahaystack.com
