It's not that big a change in my position. At 12, I'm not willing to buy LEAPs, there isn't enough upside, so I'm using stock. It's a hedge, with offsetting long and short positions. Actually, just a partial hedge, as my short position remains larger, for now. And these shares are not tightly held. Anything I buy over 10, and maybe over 8, is very likely to get sold on the next 50% rally in the SOX, of which we've had several in this Bear Market, and may have several more before the final bottom.

With AMAT in the 8-10 area, IMO it's a toss-up whether to use stock or longest-term LEAPs. Below 8, definitely LEAPs. Above 10, definitely stock (but very very cautiously).
