Lazarus:

At times, we don't remember that we are only reading words. I did not realize that my note was unclear.

>>>Nothing less than "immediate" would satisfy the critics.<<<

I think that the military's response to the situation was good. However, there was a great deal of scratching of heads in Washington when we realized that the F-16s overhead were not from Andrews AFB. Prior to September 11, 2001, I think there were only 4 AFBs who were set to scramble jets over the U. S. When you think of it, it made sense. We hadn't been attacked by air for 60 years and it costs money to keep jets armed and ready. I know that policy was changed and now think that there are 20 or so AFBs with jets ready to scramble. Today, the military has missile launchers ready in downtown D. C. because of the heightened alert.

>>>OK. I forget. Was it known that that one was also headed for DC?<<<

After the Pentagon was hit, we were warned that another plane was heading towards Washington City. That was at about 10 AM--25 minutes after the attack on the Pentagon. The 4th plane that was brought down in Pennsylvania was known to have turned around while over Ohio and was heading back towards Washington. The F-16s were ready to prevent that.

>>>Can't be. They killed some innocent terrorists.<<<

Those heroes may have saved my life.
