Whatever his merits, faults, and character traits, the evidence he presented at the UN Security Council was not only flimsy, but as we see now, at least partially false as well.

Flimsy is an opinion--and everyone has a nose and an opinion--so your opinion is duly noted for whatever value it may have. Falsity, however, can be proven. Post evidence, not opinions, that Powell purposefully presented false information to the UN.

Saddam is not co-operating, so he's in contravention of resolution 1441. He's committed genocide against his own people using poisonous gas. I'm confident he has a few tons left. It's not question of whether he has any prohibitied weapons, everyone, excepting you perhaps, knows he has. To argue that he doesn't have any, imo, is against what appears obvious to many people. He's supposed to tell us where he's keeping the stuff, not turning it into a game of hide and go seek. He's not fessing up, believing he can get away with whatever he's up to. Hey, I hear he's planting bombs around his oil facilities, I wonder how that helps the Iraqi people, perhaps he's thinking of only himself.

"to risk thousands of Iraqi civilian casualties" I don't want to risk anyones life. Saddam can retire with immunity in Lybia and so save his peoples lives. You don't see them on the streets crazy bugged eye like you do the PA when they do their protests. In fact, what I've seen of them on TV, they appear to be the most Western of all the Arab peoples. Women walking around with their faces exposed and skirts that are above the ankle. I bet they secretly long to be liberated. Why are you defending a despotic regime?
