Perhaps you should consider that endearing remark of yours before congratulating yourself on your level-headed, dispassionate debating tactics. Iraq is basically not connected with al-Qaeda It isn't? Did you sleep through all of yesterday? The new OBL tape? I got a query in my PM inbox: "What is up with thames today?" You seem to have come out swinging with both fists. Any answer? Abu Nidal, the most hunted terrorist of the previous generation, died in Baghdad a few months ago. There are reports that some al Qaeda have met with Iraqis or been in Baghdad recently. These reports are sketchier, but they are there. Saddam himself launched missiles at Israel and Saudi Arabia. The UN monitors reported that he continued to develop chemical and biological weapons throughout the 1990's, then kicked the inspectors out when they started sniffing around those programs too closely. Last week a tape recording was played to the UN of a conversation where the Iraqis were clearly trying to hide something of a chemical or biological nature from inspectors. And photos were shown of missile test facilities for missiles of a size that could only be used to attack other countries (he had agreed to a 150 km range in the 1991 agreements ending the gulf war). You can insult Laz, I suppose. You can call these things something other than a threat to peace and security. You can say, "wait til he uses them, then respond," I suppose. Calling Rumsfeld and posters on this thread names is not helpful to any reasoned discussion of the issue.
