Oh, I agree. Look at what Nortel did. They outsourced IT and it do them much good. The idea is to really understand your competitive advantage. Things that are directly relevant to sustaining that competitive advantage should be in-sourced. Things that are ancillary to that advantage should be outsourced. Most companies I talk to are trying to walk that fine line, but not many get it right. Those that don't run a huge risk of giving away their core competencies.
