Well, you know what.....Mr. Bush needs to grow up! If people don't like him, tought titty. He has a responsibility to maintain what's in the best interest of the United States, not his ego. And it is definitely not in our best interests to be estranged from our biggest and closest allies.

Our closest allies are the UK and Canada.

The UK, Canada and Germany are our closest allies.

As for France and Germany, well it works both ways. Don't they have a responsibility not to be estranged from us?

That's right......things have never been good between them and Bush. However, last summer, things took a turn for the worse. Bush started his rant about Iraq and apparently, caught France and Germany off guard. Not much was said but then things came to a head in early fall when someone in Schroeder's gov't was alleged to have put Bush down and was forced to resign. Then the German polls showed that the Germans were against war in Iraq. Scroeder campaigned on that issue and won which really annoyed Bush.

After the election was over, Schroeder and/or his ministers apologized to Bush and/or his cabinet members on a number of occasions........Bush chose to ignore these apologies. Greater distance developed between the two countries. From time to time, Rumsfield would go over and make some rude derogatory comment.

By January of this year, the tension between the two was very palpable. Then last week, Rumsfield went off on Germany again, comparing it to Libya, a rogue terrorist nation, and making other derogatory comments.

That's what pushed Germany over the edge. I am not sure they care at this point whether we are estranged or not.
