Just replace the word "war" in any statement about Iraq by France or Russia with the words "lose our oil contracts".

We must avoid losing our oil contracts at any cost. We must not have a rush to lose our oil contracts. Losing our oil contracts is not the answer, etc.

No argument about real threats. However last week you argued that Iraq wasn't a threat. Which is it?

We could use more folks like you in politics, though I know it's a huge sacrifice. At least I hope you send your thoughts to your representatives when you can take a breather from your many SI topics and contenders :). I concur that in this world, where more and more countries and many relatively poor ones will seek nuclear weapons, the US ought to start asap to be humble in our power and mobilize strong coalitions working on alternatives to military force. It's not supposed to be easy to go to war, and the US administration appears too eager to dismiss anything suggesting war may not be necessary. Rhetoric is one thing, but disregard for allies' viewpoints is another.

"Totally absurd. We are faced with REAL threats. They are mounting by the day. And our foreign policy is making things worse, not better. I have zero respect or admiration for the terrorists and extremists that threaten our national security -- zero. But I have also lost a substantial degree of respect for an Administration that has mapped out a foreign policy that has alienated our allies, increased the scope and level of threats we face, undermined key international institutions and undermines our moral authority, our legitimacy and our leadership capacity in the world."
