I disagree. I think the outsourcing trend is just gathering momentum. I think a lot of the vanilla software
engineering skills are becoming commoditized and can be done
at a fraction of the cost overseas. I think the fate of the
vanilla software engineer is akin to the fate of the engineer who tended to textile machinery. There will be positions for people who can combine business skills with
software as well as architect type positions but vanilla
software engineering positions (which constitute the bulk)
are going to be gone in the next 10 years. This may not necessarily be a bad thing.
