ooohh...it ain't over till its over.

I wouldn't be betting on anything right now. Iraq is now a secondary issue to the politics of countries right now IMO.

Gotta go.

France has an exit strategy in a double win situation:

1/ War always has to be avoided to the last second.

2/ Once you guys start, they join in, saying they did the impossible; and while everyone is totally focused on the outcome, the pre chatter looses value.

1.- France vetoes weekend resolution by the US.

Kissinger said that there will be no vetoes, and I tend to agree with him. If Powell can't craft a resolution that they will at least abstain on, no resolution will be entered.

Hi carranza2; Re: "Anyone given any thought to the French exit strategy after (perhaps) uselessly using a veto to preclude Security Council approval of the use of force?"

(1) France would only need to veto a resolution authorizing force in the rather unlikely event that such a resolution would otherwise pass.

(2) As for their motivations to stick their neck out, maybe France is motivated to do what they think is right, even if there are costs. That's the motivation that many supporters ascribe to Bush, and what's sauce for the hen is sauce for the rooster.
