1/ War always has to be avoided to the last second. 2/ Once you guys start, they join in, saying they did the impossible; and while everyone is totally focused on the outcome, the pre chatter looses value. Perhaps, but the damage to relations with the US seems too serious to justify such a stupid strategy. What credibility will the French have in the future should they follow this silly exit strategy? They will be laughed at and ignored. This is why I disagree with you. On the other hand, you surely know the French better than I do.
