As for the million martyrs bit, we went over this before. It does not necessarily mean "suicide bombers". I told you about how "martyr" means anyone who has died in war, even soldiers who die in military service in peacetime, and you did not believe me.

Yeah, yeah, in the dictionary. But when the Chairman of the PA, who pays the Tanzim and the Al Aqsa Brigade, says in the midst of a suicide-bombing campaign in which forces on his payroll are taking a leading role, that provides a different context.

Zonder... all rhetorical semantics aside, Arafat controls the PA (the finances, the large security service,.. etc). He has created the environment where children are permitted to throw stones as armed soldiers, created the environment where suicide bombers are called "martyrs" (despite suicide being against Islamic teachings)....

The way I look at it is, if Arafat's going to be the leader of the PA, he has to lead, not follow. Either that or we face the fact that he's nothing more than a figurehead or a front for some other power who ARE in charge and sanctioning such attacks.

Thus, it's NOT so much what Arafat says, but what Arafat does, that's important.. He'll SAY whatever he wants us to believe, but he'll DO whatever is to his own advantage (or fulfills his agenda)..

Being the line of work you're in, I'm sure you'd be loath to believe a brokerage recommendation of strong buy on a stock means they are buying it too and not trying to generate buyers to sell their positions into..

But that's no different than politics where people often say things they don't mean in order to manipulate others into doing what they want... Especially dictators who seldom have to answer to their own people, or control the media through which their people are "given" their political opinions.
