Unless Saddam is overthrown I expect the Republican Guard, the Special Republican Guard, and the Presidential bodyguard to fight. It seems clear to me that we are focusing a lot of energy on the Kurds and the Shiites and I believe we'll be trying to use them much the way we did the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan. The Republican Guard knows what it is like to fight the United States and I'm not sure they're going to want a real big dose of it this time. OTOH, if anyone fights I think THEY will. Man I don't know where this is headed. I just don't believe we can unwind this thing now without losing all credibility in the region.
