this guy sounds like a winner...but since he also apparently killed lots of ottomans i guess he's "ok"...

Vlad Dracolya was not a good or kind prince. He had a terrifying habit of repeatedly raiding certain towns in his territory, and murdering great numbers of people. For reasons unknown, the towns selected for these meaningless attacks where often those towns who's populations had largly German ancestory. As a result, most of the remaining written records of Vlad come from pamphlets printed by the Germans on the newly invented printing press. The most famous picture of Vlad is a woodblock print from one of these pamphlets depicting Vlad eating his dinner on a grassy hill surrounded by a forest of impaled bodies.

Most of Vlad's victims were killed by impalement. When killing large numbers of peasants, he would drive them in herds over cliffsides onto beds of spikes below. He also employed methods such as boiling, quartering, decapitation, etc.

Hello Terry, <<pissed that France can give you the finger, being a sea-going nuclear power and all>>

:0)

How quickly people forget that the French helped out the US during its critical British fighting days.

Selective memory is a common enough disease, raised to an epidemic during times of high stress and big anxiety.

Chugs, Jay

almost since inception Romania was occupied by the Turks and were forced to pay ransom several times a year by sending young children into slavery to the Ottoman Empire, aside from crops and money. (the ancient Romanians the Dacian's were able to confront the Roman Empire for a while)

Young girls ended up in sex slavery in the arab "Harems" and the young boys ended up in "cannon feeder" soldiers called "Yenicers" which were the most feared Ottoman troops in the empire.

( BTW same fate was suffered by all of the Balkan countries and since there is deep resentment toward Muslim in those places. The Yugoslav war did not start out of thin air - not that I justify it)

The other part not occupied by the Turks was occupied by the Hasburg Empire or raided by the Tatars. The Hasburgs almost continuously held control until the 1900's.

Further Romania does not claim to be a "World Power" or to pretend that they invented "freedom, equality and democracy"

Keep in mind that the French invented Perfume ---- because they do not like to wash and therefore stink....... aside from designing the Devil Island near Guinea or honor killing in Europe or the guillotine and other fancy instruments of torture

Even DeGaule was a blown up ass with unjustified aspiration waiting under the safety of the Brit's until danger was over and walk triumphant into Paris ......... at a time that many from the few courageous French gave their life and suffered horrendous torture to liberate France from the Vichey (spl?) and Nazi occupation
