I'd love to see Colin Powell present a "rebuilding Iraq" plan to the U.N.. I agree about this. My wife & I were talking about this last night. Many of these protestors, even some in the United States, believe we're going to go to Iraq, occupy the oilfields, and in effect, steal the Iraqi's oil -- a concept that is obviously absurd but nonetheless believable to some people. It would make a huge difference internationally if we would present with some specificity what the plans are for assisting in the post-war reorganization. still remain quite unhappy over the fact that it seems that both our administration and the U.N. both seemed to have made up their minds long before the arguments were really put on the table... Bob Woodward's book addresses this issue at length. Bush was adamant from the outset (9/12/01) in his agreement that Iraq had to be dealt with as part of the war on terrorism. But he was also adamant that they would not deal with the Iraq situation until Al Qaeda had been handled to the best of their ability -- echoing, in effect, some of the suggestions of liberals on this subject. Of course, we are now at the time when we have done all that CAN be done with Al Qaeda, and that is why we've moved on to Iraq. This book of Woodward's is totally enlightening, as when you finish with it, it is clear that the administation's handling of the post-9/11 crises has been nothing short of magnificent. One other point I was going to make is that Bush made a statement to his war cabinet within two weeks of 9/11 that he understood this cabinet had prior experience with Saddam, and that he wanted it understood that there would be no "settling of old scores" on his watch.
