>We need more Dems like you in this country...

I'm not a Dem, actually... to be honest, I joined New York's Independence (nee Reform) a couple of years ago as a favor for a friend...

I'm currently debating whether to reregister as an independent or as a Dem... I'm not really a liberal, but I just don't see myself as a Republican, at least not a Bush Republican. Compassionate conservatism is a crock to me. I'm leaning towards being a Democrat rather than an independent, as 1. I'm considering a career in politics, and hey, we in reality have a two-party system, and 2. in my city, you have NO chance winning any position as a Republican. Not that registering as a Dem would make me proud.

Actually, to give you an idea of where I usually stand, John McCain is my favorite national politician, and I'm still disappointed he didn't take out Bush in the primaries in 2000... I'm hoping he'll break his promises and switch over and run as a Dem in '04 (like that'll happen)... Hey, who's further to the right- John McCain or Joe Lieberman?

>As an ex-liberal, I'm pretty disgusted with where Democrats are right now. It seems like the effort is to tear Bush down rather than offer any constructive ideas. The obstruction on the Estrada nomination, totally without cause, is the latest example..

I'd obstruct that nomination, too... the Republicans desparately want to push the court system to the conservative side, and by picking someone with virtually NO public record, it raises a lot of suspicions. The Republicans have done similar things to liberal candidates in the past. It's ugly, but that's politics. Let's face it- as much as we'd like to think it isn't, the judicial branch of our government is decided as much by politics as either of the other branches.

Let the Dems ask Estrada some questions, will ya?
