<<...Zakaria finished by noting the administration has not properly funded homeland security initiatives.

Referring to the coast guard, as well as local first responder authorities, Zakaria said, "These agencies have requested funding. [The Brookings Institution] came out last month with a study that said you need an additional [$7 to $9 billion] ? to properly defend the homeland. These are statistics on which the experts agree and yet between Congress and the administration funding is not there."..>>

FaultLine: This Administration is irresponsible...They want to rush into a pre-emptive war that could cost well over $100 Billion of our tax dollars and they still HAVE NOT properly funded appropriate HomeLand Security efforts -- I've heard this from a number of folks (like Gary Hart, General Wesley Clark, and Colonel David Hackworth)...This deeply concerns me...Why won't our Administration secure the homeland -- that should be THE HIGHEST PRIORITY.

If they are correct that there is no room for anyone to change their minds, the right strategy would be to put forward a 'material breech' and 'serious consequence' resolution at the UNSC. Force the veto. It sounds like Blair needs the political cover and I think France using the veto would actually build support for the war in the US.
