I have spent over two years of my life in France, spaced over a period of over forty years, and have watched it come from postwar austerity and dinginess into a condition approaching the prosperity and internally efficient management of Switzerland.

A pretty good segment of the public in the United States takes much the same view of the Iraq question as the French government does, as do a good many members of congress.

Why should Anti-Gallicism be any more respectable than Antisemitism? I am sure that there are millions of French who support the U.S. point of view and disapprove of their government's position. No need to include them in a blanket indictment of a country.
