"Herschel, France did not surrender in WWI, fought the Germans to a standstill, and was on the winning side. "

I'm saddened to realize you actually weren't joking. No humor, no satire, just pure history revisionist fantasy.

France was trounced by Germany (read: Surrendered, lost the battle). There is nothing in the history books that would confirm your fantasy that they "fought the Germans to a standstill." Geez!

France was subsequently occupied by the Germans and finally were liberated by the Americans. The point is they lost the war and provided entertainment and French pastries (including French women) for the Germans during the occupation.

Are you French, by chance?

That's the only explanation for such illogical thought processes (stubborn nationalism).

France did not surrender in WWI, fought the Germans to a standstill, and was on the winning side. Ergo, it won. The Germans and the Turks lost.

And the Russians lost as well.
