>that's what capitalism is all about....or am I missing something?

Capitalism is about free trade and competitive market. Real Estate broker is a state sponsered monopoly. It's characteristic of a communist practice.

"If only we all could know how to do everything for ourselves, and never hire a plumber or painter again! "

Some of us do! It's called life experience. Growing up, my father did the plumbing/electrical/carpentry in our house. There is a old saying about plumbers, all you have to know is $hit runs down hill and payday is on Friday....

I have a bad taste with RE Brokers, like the one who talked my friend into buying a 1820's house in MA. These types of houses require cash flow, and are not for first time home buyers. IMO But the RE agent pushed and even paid for the Home Inspection, of course her own choosing.

By my estimate he looks to have to put about $50K to even get it close to being correct stucturally sound and up to code in wiring and energy. He dumped $400 in propane costs for the month of January for heat, this in addition to the 2 cords I gave him off my property...

Of course my friend is ultimately responsible for his decision...
