max, actually I see 2 completely different strategies at work at those companies. AMD went with a proven straight forward architecture design and decided to go with cutting edge process, Intel on the other hand used a proven very straight forward process and decided to go with cutting edge architecture. My guess is that they both did what they did to keep at least one variable steady while experimenting on the other. Eventually they'll be able to converge both and we'll see some amazing cpus. I think Prescott will be impressive because it's the 1st such cpu. On the other hand, the 90nm Opteron does not sound so exciting (compared to its predecessor ) it sounds more like an evolutionary product. Let the debates begin...

Max,

Intel makes the noise, AMD engineers hear it and react to it. I think the SOI issue will turn out to be the same as the copper issue (edit: and the palomino issue) : K8 will end up reaching it's potential clockspeed, which will be 3.2-3.4GHz on .13u SOI, 4-4.2 on .90u SOI.

I want to see results! Not delays.

"..and the wisest will win, not necessarily the more powerfull."

What indications do you have that the AMD side is wisest?
