The USA $ won't buy anything if the rest of the world realizes its only paper.
Now THAT, dear boy, has got to be one of the stupidest comments in the history of SI. Hardly any currencies these days are either precious metals or backed by them. You think the franc is?

Only a fool makes enemies of his friends especially when he is at war
We didn't make an enemy of the French. They made one of us. Their nose got out of joint in the mid '60s when they finally noticed that the US, not they, had emerged from WW2 as the leader of the Free World. At that point, in a stupid snit, their brilliant general and then President, Charles de Gaulle, kicked all US forces out of France and withdrew from the military part of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Came back to bite them, though. They fact that they were no longer in the military part of NATO meant that had no seat on NATO's Defense Planning Council. That allowed it to pass a motion to begin preparation for the defense of Turkey.

If we have to depend on the frogs, it's time to surrender to Afghanistan.
