Again, if they want to check out, fine. That is their business, and if they are truly motivated, it should be enough that it continues to be their business. They should not require collaboration. Only in the rare situation that a person is unable to arrange to overdose is it worthwhile to contemplate assistance, as far as I can see. In any case, I was not primarily talking about a situation where someone is incapacitated or in unbearable pain, but one in which he clearly was not, and wondering what sort of thing we are saying when the person is not seeking relief, but is merely evading a possibility of much suffering.

Yes, I mean "societal expectations". I do not think we need use heroic means to maintain life, but I also do not think people should be pressured to die.
