Pope voices worry that war will disturb entire Middle East

Vatican City-AP -- Pope John Paul is concerned that a war with Iraq will "unsettle the entire Middle East."

In his Sunday message to the faithful in St. Peter's Square, the pope called on Catholics to fast March fifth -- Ash Wednesday -- to show support for peace.

He says "the future of humanity" will never be determined "by the logic of war" or terrorism.

Quoting from the Gospel of Matthew, the pope finished his appeal by declaring that "blessed are the peacemakers."

the peace movement is making a BIG MISTAKE in pacing its hopes in this body IMHO ....If the bushies manage to blackmail, threaten, and bribe the Security Council

Bush can run from the Peace Movement but he cannot hide. If he goes to war, watch US companies all over the world feel the wrath of the angry masses.

You will see Coke being pored down sewers which will maim, if not kill, its overseas profits for years. Struggling McDonalds will see its restaurants boycotted and closed. Watch other US companies such as Nike, Walmart, or Kodak feel the heat. If I may pun a phrase, the picture is not pretty.

Dubya miscalculated. Or, given his hubris, he never calculated. But the Peace Train has a good chance of smashing the best laid plans of mice and men. And the hubris of Dubya.
