Actually, there might well be a difference between the Rumsfeld-Cheney view of things and neocon view. Thus, the PNAC crowd is in favor of taking on a big imperial burdening, using Iraq as a case study of democratic revolution that will transform the Muslim world, etc. etc. Rumsfeld and Cheney, otoh, seem much more interested in a beat-the-crap-out-of-our-foes-and-get-the-hell-out kind of operation. I see them as being more strictly conservative than neoconservative. Now these lines are blurred a bit cause Wolfowitz (a neocon) is Rumsfeld's deputy, and Scooter Libby (a neocon) is Cheney's chief of staff. But one doesn't get the sense that there is anything remotely idealistic about, say, Cheney. Since in this instance the conservative and neoconservative views diverge on what to do once the invasion is over, the aftermath of the war should be interesting...

Nadine, you can take your "implied slurs" and ship them off to AIPAC, for all I care. Which, in turn, seems not the least bit shy about bragging about its influence, judging from google.com
