Very smart, truthful concise response from Kerry. You wont get that from most people on the Hill, you'll either get no response or some spin. Kerry has been compared to Honest Abe Lincoln and I hope that's the way people see him as they get to know him better. Those who attack Kerry for fli-flopping on the war dont get it. He's been consistent. That statement he sent you is his position. Period. It's also not right for Bushies to attack Democrats as weak on Iraq. People like Kerry just want to be SMART about Iraq. At what cost? Are we prepared? Have we created more problems than we solve by going in now? Is it worth blowing off important allies, esp on the War On Terror?
Is it worth paying Turkey 26 billion? Is this really a Coalition of the Willing, or the Bought? Is Saddam really an imminent threat to us? And can we afford that sort of checkbook diplomacy when we're running huge deficits and cutrting important domestic programs? These are questions which need to be answered. Bush either isn't answering them or doesn't care. He just keeps repeating the same general lines over and over. Meanwhile the world economy melts down and the world hates us more and more.

Steve

Kerry is certainly a master politician and his political writers are good with words ----he hedges as he supports war and then as he doesn't support war, he shows prudence so that he can then point to his statements later in a campaign and accuse his opponnent of not showing prudence.

These are long time political techniques used by many candidates to set the stage for their campaigns.

Unlike some of the writers here on this board----Kerry recognizes the importance of taking out the enemy. He and Bush are very similar----they are both patient men and will fight as a last resort.

Kerry has given Bush a vote of confidence in his letter and in the United States Senate. This is exactly what we need now is unity and Kerry has indicated his willingness to uniify behind the current administration in combatting Saddam etc.
