Many come here with very little education and very little money and a generation later they're doctors and lawyers. " ------------------- The cream of the crop come to the USA. Coming to the USA creates a huge hurdle for anyone entering this country, whether one is coming here, with very little money (by USA standards, not Asian standards.) It weeds out those that aren't as aggressive or capable, so it's a faulty comparison to compare against only the top. If you go to one Asian country, you will not find cab drivers as educated there as they are here in the USA per one of my college roommates who is from an Asian country. She was shocked by how educated even cab drivers are in the USA. In her country, a Ph.D. is a guarantee to a good job, but not necessarily true in the USA, where she said, "you can find highly educated cab drivers with Ph.D's in the USA." So, if you were to compare USA cab drivers to the cab drivers in her country, she would claim that USA drivers are more educated than in her country. Quite the contrary to the suggestion of your claim. The USA attracts the top and it is a completely capitalistic (supply/demand) and also merit-based - that's why we're the most competitive country in the world. But sometimes the USA doesn't treat black people well. A friend of mine was a black engineer at large company (there are less than 2% black engineers in the USA), and a manager asked her to give him a cup of coffee during her first week on the job rather than treating her with the dignity she deserved. She complained to her manager and he told her she should handle it herself. It's one thing for an experienced worker to handle it herself, but completely another thing for an NCG. She left engineering and went to law school. You know there is an attitude problem about black people, when the "n" word is still used on Ebay. Go figure. Regards, Amy J
