Karen, what was the matter with the folks in SF October of 89 that they didn't realize there was going to be an earthquake of that magnitude? Although we Californians always expected a big one, that earthquake showed us where the weaknesses were. Later, buildings were retrofitted and more stringent building codes were put into place. We didn't nuke Loma Prieta faultline, we worked to get our lives back and make ourselves safer. "Did all those "millions" think Sept 11th was "OK"" Seriously, do you know anyone in this country who thinks 9/11 is okay? And why on earth would anyone march for 9/11? THe CIA and FBI our intelligence which is supposed to work to prevent terrorists from attacking were not doing their jobs we later learned. We've not had any attacks within our borders since 9/11. If you ever saw back to the Future, ca July 1985, the professor used plutonium he'd gotten from Libyan terrorists to power the deLorean. Terrorists have abounded for years. Terrorists have been around for years and have been (for the most part) thwarted. Saudi Arabians were aboard those planes that hit the towers, not Iraqis. Powell says if we attack, expect blowback in the form of attacks within this country. Well, let's see, it will cost us the lives of our military, it will cost billions to fight a war, not to mention the billions it is costing us now. WE can expect retaliation and our troops are elsewhere which leaves us vulnerable. According to Powell, we can expect red alerts and our only defense is duct tape and plastic sheeting. We are blackmailing bribing and threatening the rest of the world to join us. There's something wrong with this picture IMO.

Karen, where were the "millions" of people on Sept 11th, or 12, or 13th, etc....Did all those "millions" think Sept 11th was "OK"? Or that it couldn't happen again? Or happen in their country? I think there is a real divide in outlook between those who believed that September 11th showed a new, dangerous and permanent category of threat, and those who believe that September 11th was a one-off, which has caused America to go beserk in response. It's a matter of belief since neither side has enough hard evidence to absolutely know the right answer, though those who think it was a one-off are ignoring a great deal of intelligence information and police investigations.
