From Briefing.com: 8:57AM Cisco Systems expectations may be optimistic: Lehman (CSCO) 14.42: Lehman met with Westcon, a major networking distributor for CSCO; Westcon suggested that growth is sluggish and overall global networking growth will be only 1-3% in 2003; Lehman says that that expectations for sequential improvement in the second half may be optimistic as a result.

8:28AM NVIDIA increasing orders at TSM (NVDA) 13.02: Bear Stearns' Ripple Effect says that Taiwan's Commercial Times reported this morning that NVDA has aggressively increased its wafer orders at Taiwan Semi (TSM); NVDA's CEO also told the paper he expects sequential growth in notebook graphics chips in every quarter of 2003, and sees significant improvement in Xbox chips in the second half versus the first half of 2003.

8:11AM Network Appliance to see MSFT competition: Piper (NTAP) 10.94: USB Piper Jaffray analyst Ashok Kumar warns that NTAP will be seeing competition from Microsoft (MSFT), which has embedded competing technology in its Windows 2003 Server OS called "Shadow Copy of Shared Folders"; Kumar believes NTAP will find it increasingly difficult to sell into higher growth Windows environment as vendors like Dell integrate Windows 2003 technology into their NAS products.

7:46AM Integrated Circuit unlikely to gain share in PC clock mkt - Bear Stearns (ICST) 22.30: Bear Stearns says they continues to believe that ICST is unlikely to gain additional share in the PC clock mkt as INTC's Springdale chip set architecture is introduced in April, and that clock content per system is likely to decrease in 2H03; firm also thinks competitor CY is positioned with design wins to maintain or possibly slightly gain mkt share as Springdale ramps into volume later in the year; believes ICST stock is likely range-bound in the near-term, and maintains Peer Perform rating.

7:09AM Saddam says he will resist UN demand to destroy al-Samoud 2 missiles : CBS reports that Saddam Hussein denied his al-Samoud 2 missiles violated U.N. mandates and indicated he will resist demands to destroy them. He also challenged President Bush to a debate, which the White House dismissed as "not a serious statement".

7:05AM Tellabs estimates cut at UBS (TLAB) 6.02: UBS reduces FY03 est to ($0.11) from ($0.02) and FY04 to $0.04 from $0.15, citing lower sales to AT&T Broadband and slower sales ramp-up of new optical networking products. Firm's price target goes to $6.80 from $8.40.

7:04AM North Korean missile launch sends Asian mkts tumbling : The Wall Street Journal reports that North Korea's test fire of a missile into the sea between Korea and Japan increased tensions in the region and sent stock prices plunging in Tokyo, South Korea, and Taiwan today; launch came on the eve of the inauguration of South Korea's new president, Roh Moo Hyun.

I think you could be right Bob. I would like to see the sentiment and technical indicators pointing out another bottom first.

RE: "IF this is a quick and successful war (and I expect it to be) once again technology will have shown the oppressive how easily carnage can rain down from the defenders of freedom - all at a comfortable distance."

There are NO "quick and successful" wars. I am still waiting for Osama Bin Laden's trial. You know, the object of our last "quick and successful" war.

RE: " believe we will unmercifully show the globe that terrorism has no place to hide. This will be surgically implemented completely by and thru the power of technology."

Doesn't "been there, done that" apply? The "globe" generally considers George W. Bush to be the greatest threat to world peace if we are to believe what our embassies are relaying back.

RE: "The benefit of technology and it's brutal punishment will eliminate terrorism's breeding grounds and make a giant step towards its elimination."

Do you really believe that bombing the hell out of an Arab country, Iraq, will "eliminate terrorism's breeding grounds"?

I am hopeful for the future of technology and technology investing, but I think it is complete folly to think that technology will solve the geopoltical problems.

North Korea has WMD and means to deliver them. North Korea sells everything it is able to sell. North Korea works closely with Pakistan. Osama is in or cloes to Pakistan. We will be sending more food to North Korea.

My conclusion is that Iraq has NO WMD or means to deliver them. Iraq has OIL! If I am correct, there is no need to attack. If I am not correct, save your money to buy when the Saudi oil fields are nuked.
