Semiconductor . . . NVIDIA cut to Hold from Buy at Wedbush Morgan. The downgrade is based on run in price since firm upgraded NVDA two weeks ago. In addition, firm's takeaway from the Intel Developer Forum is that there is limited growth in company's core discrete graphics business, given Intel's stepped-up effort and commitment to the integrated graphics market. After attending the forum, Wedbush is convinced that Intel will play a more significant role in the graphics market in terms of moving the graphics performance of its integrated graphics chipsets up to addressing mainstream consumer market.

Bear Stearns' Ripple Effect says that Taiwan's Commercial Times reported this morning that NVIDIA has aggressively increased its wafer orders at Taiwan Semi. NVDA's CEO also told the paper he expects sequential growth in notebook graphics chips in every quarter of 2003, and sees significant improvement in Xbox chips in the second half versus the first half of 2003.

Bear Stearns says they continues to believe that Integrated Circuit is unlikely to gain additional share in the PC clock market as Intel's Springdale chip set architecture is introduced in April, and that clock content per system is likely to decrease in 2nd half 2003. The firm also thinks competitor Cypress is positioned with design wins to maintain or possibly slightly gain market share as Springdale ramps into volume later in the year; believes ICST stock is likely range-bound in the near-term, and maintains Peer Perform rating.

First Albany initiated Xilinx with a Buy. Price Target $27. XLNX is a leading supplier of programmable logic devices, and firm thinks PLDs will continue to gain share relative to ASICs and that XLNX will maintain or grow its share within the PLD market.
