Sorry -- those comments would best be discussed by a group of us in a week-long get together. I'm not inclined (or smart enough) to enter that long a discussion typing my thoughts/beliefs here.

I'm sure you'll take this as a "cop-out" and maybe it is, but at least I'm giving you the courtesy of a reply.

Maybe someday we can visit face to face and enjoy thoughts of others too. Of course, by then we'll be sure of our "facts".

Keep your comments coming tho - it's important that we all put the study of God's word near the top of our efforts.

:-)

James I see your back to promulgating false doctrine.

"Ever wonder why the First Century Christians expected Jesus to come in their lifetime"

I wonder how they could have missed such a monumental and significant event if it indeed took place as you claim? A heretical theory developed eighteen hundred years later is hardly a convincing argument.

Matt. 10:23 "But whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you shall not finish going through the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man comes."

The greatest error you are making is to assume that this verse has one and only one immediate fulfillment. What you need to prove is that the things that the bible says will happen at the return of Christ did in fact take place! Here is where you completely abandon your claim to take the bible at face value and do exactly what you disparage others for.

"Those who claim to interpret the Bible literally, trip over the obvious meaning of these time texts by making Scripture mean the opposite of what it unequivocally declares."

Rev 1:7 "Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen."

Acts 1:9 "After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
10They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

Zech 14:3 "Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him."

Your "System" fails to take into account all the relative data. Fails to account for it's claims historically, and amounts to a denial of essential Christian doctrine that the Church has always held. Not only do you deny the physical return of Christ but you also deny his physical resurrection. That puts you outside of Christ and you should be ashamed.

Approved and Disapproved Workers 2 Tim 2:
14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. 19Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

James,
It's been a long time since we last spoke. I hope life has treated you and your family well.
I don't visit SI very often anymore, but I did have the occasion to read some of the posts on this thread the other day. I may be wrong, but it appears that some of your views on Christianity may have changed since "back in the day".

It appears that your viewpoints have become somewhat harsher and more in tune with Brian Valentine's beliefs. If that is the case I would love to know why. If you would like to conversation over PM, I would be happy to do so. I always enjoyed talking with you, even though we had radically different belief systems.

Best of Luck,
Mark
