Jim, re "Chinese land line carrier announces intent to use CDMA2000 for 3G services."

That a potential wireless operator is also a non-wireless operator is irrelevant, IMHO.

“Potential events that could dramatically increase Qualcomm’s acceptance by the market forces and result in a quick and dramatic share price increase”.
14. Chinese land line carrier announces intent to use CDMA2000 for 3G services.

As long as we are engaging in wishful thinking (i.e, Jim's list of "potential" events, not that #14 is particularly unrealistic), it seems to me that the best thing that could happen for QCOM is a successful wCMDA launch. The perception that wCDMA is inevitable and just around the corner has taken a big hit, leading european operators to explore other options (EDGE, hopefully GSM1X). That is likely to end badly for QCOM, IMO. Helping wCDMA displace/replace GSM quickly is the best way for QCOM to "go after the remaining 87%." It's unrealistic to expect that QCOM will suddenly dominate the GSM chipset business. That would be jumping the gun as much as inferring that INTC's entry into the GSM/GPRS chipset market will garner them an extra 400 millions chip sales a year. Going from 0 to 100% market share is always difficult. But I do agree that if QCOM could pull it off, it certainly does have the potential to "result in a quick and dramatic share price increase."
